8 Ways to Repair and Prevent Damaged Hair

Damage to hair can happen by many factors. Over-styling, over-lightening, hormones, or just plain overdoing it can cause your hair to become damaged, brittle and broken. To prevent those things from happening, or to repair your hair if it’s already damaged, follow these handy hair tips.

1. LOWER THE TEMPERATURE ON YOUR TOOLS.

Your curling iron, flat iron and blow dryer, they’re the magic wands that transform your ordinary or unruly hair into luscious waves and curls or voluminous, blown-out goodness. With all that heat comes heat damage, dryness, brittleness and flyways. Make sure you use a good heat protectant, we recommended ELEVEN Australia, Miracle Hair Treatment.

2. THROW OUT SUPERMARKET SHAMPOO & PRODUCTS INTO THE BIN.

Cheap products tend to contain cheap ingredients - like alcohol & astringent sulphates - which can be the kiss of death to compromised hair. This also applies when buying products online, there is no guarantee that what you are getting is the real deal according to the packages. Many times, this stock can be out of date or even diluted. I think we have all had disappointing experiences with online shopping.

Here in the salon we use ELEVEN Australia products they are cruelty-free and PETA approved, ELEVEN Australia products call on high performing natural ingredients such as Australian Desert Lime, Avocado Oil and antioxidant-rich Australian Quandong for maximum efficiency. We use simple and uncomplicated product names, which means you know exactly what you’re getting when selecting the right products for you. Want volume? Look no further than our I Want Body range. Need hydration? Try our Hydrate My Hair Moisture range! There’s something for everyone. And, the best bit? We have a selection of vegan and gluten-free products to suit all hair types.

3. USE SALON PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS - PROTEIN RICH SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER.

We recommend ELEVEN AUSTRALIA Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner contains avocado oil and hydrolysed wheat protein and sulphate free.

4. DITCH THE COCONUT OIL.

Food grade coconut oil is way too heavy for fragile hair. Prolong use will snap damaged hair. Eleven Australia have Miracle treatment which is a great all-rounder with its eleven benefits your hair will love!

5. BOOK IN FOR NOURISHING AND STENGTHEN HAIR TEATMENTS.

Ideally once a week do a hair treatment at home and when having hair services in the salon. Your hair will love you for it! We retail and recomend the ELEVEN Australia hair treatments. They are so nourishing for your hair and smell amazing!

6. NEVER SLEEP WITH WET HAIR.

Hair is most fragile when wet. Invest in a wet brush or wide tooth comb brush from the ends first making your way up to the roots and let air dry if possible. Try to stay away from hard water and chlorine. Eleven Australia have Detangle My Hair leave in spray to help hydrate & tame hair.

7. GET ROUTINE HAIR CUTS.

When all else fails, cut off the dead stuff and start over! Thankfully hair grows back about 6 inches a year. Speed up the hair growth process by trying hair vitamins like biotin, selenium and Zinc. Include protein rich foods in your diet e.g. beef, avocados, oysters, salmon.

8. BUY A SILK OR SATIN PILLOWCASE

These are a great all-rounder to protect your hair from the fiction you get from normal cotton pillowcases. They are great for your skin, eyelash extensions, heaps cooler for hot flushes. You will not look back after a luxury sleep experience.

Try to avoid too-frequent shampooing. If your hair and scalp need refreshing, try a dry shampoo the second or third day. Finally, wash your hair with lukewarm or cool water, and finish the shampoo process with a shot of cool water. Cool or cold water can help damaged hair by closing the hair cuticle and causing the hair shaft to lie flat, resulting in shinier, smoother hair.
